It was completely redesigned in 2021 and continues to be a great success since the Ford F-150 is still the best-selling full-size truck in Canada. And there’s no reason to change a winning formula, so the 2022 edition won’t see any major changes.
The most significant changes aren’t technically changes since they’re essentially new versions. The most anticipated and talked about is undoubtedly the 100% electric version of the Ford F-150 called Lightning. But it will be so different from the traditional F-150 that it should be considered a new vehicle in its own right.
Among the main changes affecting the 2022 F-150, some are already well known. This is the case of the disappearance of the 3.0-litre Power Stroke Diesel engine, which was already discontinued in the last months of 2021. However, this will only affect a few people since there are several other options available to smart consumers.
This is notably the case with the two EcoBoost engines. The powerful 5.0L Coyote V8 also remains. Those who want more fuel economy will turn to Ford’s first hybrid truck, the PowerBoost and its incredible work capabilities.
This hybrid powertrain offers a combined total of 430 horsepower and a staggering 570 lb-ft of torque. This is a significant increase over the turbo diesel engine, which only produces 250 horsepower. The hybrid’s maximum towing capacity is also exceptional; it can tow up to 5,772 kilos, which puts it among the leaders in its class. Another good point is that the hybrid model’s fuel consumption is estimated at only 9.8 litres per 100 kilometres.
Remember that all versions of the 2022 F-150 are equipped with the 10-speed automatic transmission developed by Ford and known for its smoothness and speed.
As is always the case, the 2022 Ford F-150 comes in many versions capable of meeting the needs of workers and families alike. From XL to Lariat, Platinum to Limited, North America’s best-selling pickup comes in various cab configurations and box lengths. A Tremor version also comes with extra equipment for easy off-road access.
Depending on the level selected, the work options will allow for towing of up to 3,719 to 6,260 kilos and offers a maximum load of up to 1,002 kilos.
The F-150 is more than just a pickup truck, however. The cabin was designed to be versatile, practical and comfortable. Seats that fold flat, for example, or a transmission lever that hides in the center console to make room for a work (or picnic) table, are just a few of the options available.
Add in the Sync 4 multimedia system, one of the most advanced on the market, Apple Car Play and Android Auto connectivity, over-the-air updates and FordPass connectivity, and you have one of the most connected trucks around.
There are even some handy extras, like an optional 7.2 kW generator (on hybrid versions), a worktable, and a measuring ruler built right into the powered tailgate. An electric step is also available. All this while maintaining the rigid chassis and aluminum construction that made the F-150 so corrosion resistant.
In 2022, Ford is expected to add an ultra-powerful version of its truck to its catalogue: the Raptor R. Reserved for a select few, the Raptor R will be available in limited quantities. But beware, the power is not limited. This new kind of beast should develop 760 horsepower thanks to a supercharged 5.2-litre Predator V8 engine found in the Mustang Shelby GT500 S550.
With its numerous versions, a renewed color lineup and a long list of practical accessories, the 2022 Ford F-150 is both the perfect work companion and the ideal family vehicle.
