What does it mean when my check engine light illuminates?


The check engine light is part of your vehicle’s on board diagnostics (OBD) system and indicates a problem that may have an effect on the vehicle emissions system.
If the check engine light illuminates, it will either blink or remain constant, depending on the problem. Either way, you should have the vehicle checked by a Qualified Service Technician as soon as possible.

What is TPMS?


The tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is a safety feature built into most vehicles that monitors tire air pressure and illuminates a low tire pressure warning light if there is a problem. It works by wirelessly sending the tire pressure reading to one of the vehicle’s computer modules and monitoring that pressure on a continuous basis. The tire pressure is read by sensors that are located either on the inside of the tire valve stem or attached to the inside of the wheel.

If the system determines that the tire pressure has dropped below a predetermined safe minimum, the vehicle will illuminate the low tire pressure warning light and the tire pressure should be adjusted. If the light flashes instead of illuminating solid, the system has determined there is a fault (i.e. no information being transmitted by a sensor). If there is a fault the vehicle should be checked by a Qualified Service Technician as soon as possible.

I don’t drive much so do I still need to have my vehicle serviced as often?


Due to our local climate and road conditions we normally advise most customers to have their vehicle serviced every 6 months or 8000 km (whichever comes first). Even “short tripped” vehicles that don’t drive much should still have their oil changed every 6 months because the oil degrades and loses some of its lubricating properties over time.

There are certain circumstances where the interval can be increased up to 1 year/16,000 km, but it is very rare. If you have any questions about what interval is right for you please feel free to call or drop by to speak with any of our Service Staff.

My ABS light is on. Is it safe to drive my vehicle?


A vehicle’s anti-lock braking system (ABS) is a critical safety feature. Newer vehicles have very sophisticated ABS systems that integrate and work in conjunction with many other vehicle systems. If the ABS light is illuminated it indicates there is a problem or fault with one or more of the ABS related components. It is important to have your vehicle checked by a Qualified Service Technician as soon as possible because the system may not function properly in an emergency.
